Being one of the most popular games, Remnant isn’t without its issues as well. One specific problem which we came across was where the game crashed. The crashing either occurs after a potential update or during in-game. Numerous users raised their voices on many platforms but were unable to find any fix. In this article, we will go through all the different reasons as to why this occurs and what the possible workarounds are to fix the issue.
What causes Remnant: From the Ashes to Crash?
After investigating and combining user reports, we concluded that the issue occurred due to several reasons ranging from instability in the game to local machine issues. Some of the reasons as to why issue occurs are but not limited to: Before we start with the solutions, make sure that you are logged in as an administrator and have an active connection to the internet as we will be updating a lot of modules as well.
Pre-requisite: System Requirements
Before we move on to the technical solutions, the first thing we will check is whether the system requirements of the game are being met. If your computer doesn’t even meet the requirements, the game will crash. Even though the game runs in minimum requirements, we recommend the recommended ones to solve the problem.
Minimum Requirements
Recommended Requirements
Solution 1: Enabling V-Sync
Vertical Sync enables the option for users where they sync their frame rates on which the game is currently running to sync with your monitor’s refresh rate. This helps in achieving greater stability and improved graphics in the game. This feature is disabled (by default) for many users. We got multiple reports from people who showed a positive response after enabling the V-Sync option. In this solution, we will navigate to your settings and change the V-sync settings to enabled and see if this fixes the problem. In this solution, we will navigate to the settings of the game and disable the option. Note: You can also tweak other graphics settings from here if this doesn’t work. Save changes and exit. Restart the game and see if the issue is resolved.
Solution 2: Checking RAM for Bad sectors using memtest86
Games make intensive use of RAMs in their operations. RAM is responsible for transferring and holding data from your hard drive while the CPU performs computations. If your RAM is causing issues, the game might crash whenever there is fluctuation in the module. First, you should check whether your RAM is inserted properly or not. Make sure that you hear a ‘click’ sound when you insert it in the slot. If the RAMs are in the proper place and you are still experiencing issues, we will try running a memory diagnostics check and see if this spots any discrepancies. If it does, you can replace your RAM and see if this makes any difference to our case.
Solution 3: Changing Resolution to 1080 (for consoles)
Remnant: From the Ashes is also available on PlayStation devices which has a good and decent user base. People also go online from this platform and engage in multiple multiplayer scenarios. One thing which we noticed was that when the resolution in consoles was set higher than 1080, Remnant started becoming slow up to a point where it stopped playing altogether. Here in this solution, we will navigate to your console settings and check the resolution and change it if necessary. If you are using a PC, you can also change the resolution set inside your game settings and see if this makes any difference in your case.
Solution 4: Enabling Supersampling
Supersampling is an option in PS4 which allows users to have an ‘enhanced’ picture quality when they are playing a game on it. This improved picture quality is the result of the processor sampling the product a couple of times more before passing it to the display pipeline which helps with the display. According to Remnant officials themselves, enabling Supersampling works like magic in solving the crash issue. Here is the method on how to enable it.
Solution 5: Enabling FPS Cap
FPS cap is functionality in Remnant where it allows the game to set a maximum frame rate which it can go to. So if there is by any chance that you ‘can’ have 100 FPS but your cap is set to 60 FPS, the game will not go above 60 FPS in any case. This feature, even though it restricts the FPS cap, helps in stabilizing the game by preventing any crashes. Here in this solution, we will navigate to the settings of the game and set the FPS cap to 60 and see if this works for us.
Solution 6: Verifying Integrity of Files
As we mentioned before earlier, there are numerous scenarios where the very installation files of the game somehow become corrupt. This can be due to the game being moved around or when a bad update is processed. In this solution, we will navigate to your game’s properties in Steam client and then use the in-built option of verifying the integrity of game files and see if this makes any difference in our case.
Solution 7: Updating Graphics drivers
If all the above solutions don’t work and you are still unable to fix the crashing issue, we will move on and try updating your graphics drivers to the latest build available. Graphics drivers are the main components between your graphics hardware and the game and transmit information between the two. If the very drivers are not working properly, the OS will not be able to get a favorable output from the drivers and hence it will cause numerous problems. In this solution, we will install a third-party application called Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and use to completely remove the current drivers from your computer. Once this is done, the default drivers will be installed. If the default ones don’t work, we will update them to the latest build available. To update, right-click on your hardware and select Update Driver. Now select any one of the two options according to your case.
