Different Types of RPGs

There are a lot of different types of role-playing games on the today’s market and it’s pretty hard to list them all out. One of the most popular types includes turn-based RPGs where players do their move and wait for the opponent to complete his. This would include Final Fantasy series and Pokémon series. Other people prefer MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games). These games are played online along with a lot of people where you can undertake quests together or even fight against human opponents. Apart from this, people still get confused when the term CRPG is mentioned because this genre seems obsolete. However, there are two ways to interpret the meaning of this genre and that is why confusion tends to form.

CPRG – Meaning

CPRG belongs to the Western PC-style games which have something in common and are different than the Japanese or Console style of RPGs. The term CRPG is sometimes simply referred to as role-playing games because the original RPGs were designed for computers. Some people claim that CRPG stands for Computer Role Playing Games and that is the acronym accepted by the world and confirmed by a lot of sources. The early history of role-playing games is also the early history of CRPGs because they were all the same back in the days. However, consoles started coming out and the genre itself separated as the Japanese culture with Nintendo and Sony started producing games like Final Fantasy. On the other hand, some online definitions claim that CRPG stands for Classic Role-Playing Games and certain websites and companies accepted this as the real acronym. This type of RPGs would include the early classics such as Dungeon and games originally inspired by pen and paper role-playing games. It’s true that the original CRPGs included these games but the term itself should not be limited to classics as there are new and modern CRPGs-
