Windows 10 OS has always allowed apps to start up automatically when users turn on their computers. Windows OS has had the ability to run certain applications automatically after the computer starts, for a long time. However, quite a few of these so-called autostart apps can affect performance. Hence, Microsoft is now showing warnings to users.

Microsoft Windows 10 Notification Will Include Warnings That Notify Users About Apps Added To Startup Apps List:

Popular Windows programs such as OneDrive, Cortana, Microsoft Teams, Spotify, etc. have had the ability to start running in the background when users log into the operating system. While a few Microsoft apps have had the exclusive and autonomous ability to insert themselves in the Startup Apps list, nearly every app that wanted to start alongside Windows OS, could do so.

— Windows Latest (@WindowsLatest) October 13, 2020 Incidentally, Microsoft does offer users complete control over the apps that autostart with Windows boot. Still, to date, the most limiting aspect of the Windows 10 Startup apps feature was that the apps were added to the list automatically. Needless to mention, as users intentionally or unintentionally add several apps to the list, the PC’s performance can get affected negatively. Hence, Microsoft is working on a new feature that will alert users when apps are added to the Startup apps list. The feature was included inside the recent Windows 10 21H1 preview builds. It essentially highlights an effort to keep users more informed about background activities.

How Does The Startup Apps List Notification Feature Work To Reduce Boot Time And Improve Performance Of Windows 10?

Microsoft Windows 10 21H1 Feature Update includes the new warning that alerts PC users about any app that wants to add itself to the Autostart App List. The Toast Notification is visible after installing any app with autostart requirements. The warning mentions the app is configured to start when the user logs on. If acceptable, users can close the warning. If Microsoft does decide to include the feature in a future stable and final release of Windows 10 21H1 Feature Update, it could arrive sometime next year. Until then, users are recommended to visit “Autostart” in the task manager and review all the apps listed. Users can choose to disable or enable the Autostart permission.
