AMD appears to be actively testing its upcoming line of high-efficiency processors for the new line of Chromebook laptop computers. These lightweight laptops with ultra-portable form factor will run on Chrome OS and will be reportedly powered by the AMD Ryzen and Athlon 3000 C-Series Mobile Processors. The mystery AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, however, appears to belong to a new series of APUs.
First APU From AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Of Mobile Processors Appears Online In AotS Benchmark:
An AotS benchmark appears to confirm the existence of the first-ever APU from AMD Ryzen 5000 Series. The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U is clearly a mobile processor as it belongs to the U-Series. It is not, however, immediately clear if the processor is part of the series codenamed Cezanne, Van Gogh, or Lucienne.

If accurate, the APU is a Renoir refresh APU intended primarily for Google Chromebook laptops. But if the series were in fact codenamed Cezanne, then users would expect the first ZEN 3 mobile processor. The chances are quite slim owing to an important aspect of the AotS benchmark.

Previous reports have confirmed that AMD will name the new Series as AMD Ryzen 5000 to avoid confusion between the mobile and desktop series. Additionally, there’s an AMD Ryzen 4000 Series but it is based on the ZEN 2 Architecture. Hence, naming the new ZEN 3-based processors as AMD Ryzen 5000 Series makes sense. The mystery AMD Ryzen 7 5700U could belong to the AMD Ryzen 5000 Lucienne-U Series because the scores the CPU managed in the AotS benchmark are quite low. This indicates the CPU could belong to the new APU family with a low 15W TDP Profile. However, it is also possible AMD could be testing an early Engineering Sample from the AMD Ryzen 5000 ‘Cezanne’ family which will be based on the ZEN 3 Architecture. Apart from the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series, the company is also readying power-efficient 3000 C-Series Mobile Processors that will power the upcoming Chromebook laptops. These processors can reportedly offer long battery life as well as the latest connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5. There are two new series of AMD CPUs for the upcoming Chromebook laptops: Athlon-branded models and AMD Ryzen 3000 C Series Mobile Processors. Incidentally, these chips have a 15W TDP Profile. Companies such as Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo, are expected to unveil new Chromebooks based on the ZEN-based AMD CPUs later this year.
