However, today marks a change for Nokia’s outlook on laptops as they have just announced a new deal with OFF Global to sell laptops under Nokia’s name and a new affordable laptop which rivals the best-looking expensive entries out there. OFF Global is a French tech company which now holds the license to (selling) Nokia-branded laptops around the world. While this doesn’t explicitly say that Nokia has switched manufacturers, it does mean that OFF Global is who will sell Nokia laptops going forward, similar to how HMD Global sells Nokia smartphones.
Nokia PureBook Pro
Along with announcement, OFF Global also unveiled the “PureBook Pro” laptop aimed at the entry-level market. The PureBook Pro, as the name might suggest, takes heavy design cues from the 14-inch MacBook Pro with its beautiful flat top, rounded corners and protruding rubber feet. That flat top is actually made out of aluminum and comes in four different colors, all of which look expensively elegant for the price. Speaking of which, this laptop comes in at an affordable price point, which means it’s trying to nail the basics without sacrificing on too many extras whilst still making you feel like you bought a solid device. It’s a middle of the road kind of option with its 60Hz 1080p IPS screen and Intel Core i3-1120P Alder Lake processor. The laptop also comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD for all your storage needs. We also see a decent selection of I/O on the PureBook Pro with a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port and two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports, along with a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi 6 are also present on-board with Nokia/OFF Global promising up to 10 hours of battery life out of the 57 Wh cell inside. That claim should be mostly accurate considering the i3 processor can only do lightweight gaming and is optimized more so for efficiency. Nokia’s PureBook Pro will come in two sizes: a 15-inch (15.6″) and a 17-inch (17.3″)model, both of which are priced $100 apart from each other. The 15-inch model starts at just $699 whereas the 17-inch model bumps the starting price up to $799. It will be available in a bunch of countries starting soon, including France, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other regions like Morocco, Tunisia, Canada and Thailand. OFF Global didn’t provide any word on U.S. availability but it’s unlikely that the laptop would come to the States if it wasn’t a part of the “Phase 1 countries“—countries getting the laptop first. This launch would mark a shift in how Nokia evaluates laptops under its brand and if this PureBook Pro turns out be a success, who knows, we might just see exciting Nokia laptops in the near future.
