The RTX 3080 Ti mobile

Sources close to Videocardz have confirmed to them that the RTX 3080 Ti mobile will be the first mobile GPU to feature 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory, in specific 16GB of it. The RTX 3080 mobile also has 16GB of VRAM but that’s clocked at only 14 Gbps as opposed to 16 Gbps about to be seen in the 3080 Ti mobile. As you can tell, this increase in performance translates to increase in power consumption as well. The RTX 3080 Ti will have a 175W TGP (Total Graphics Power) which is 10W more than the highest-clocked RTX 3080 mobile right now. However, this spec is based on NVIDIA‘s Dynamic Boost 2.0 along with being configurable by the manufacturer. Dynamic Boost 2.0 smartly shifts power between the CPU and GPU to manage it efficiently, while the spec itself can be slightly increased or decreased by the laptop maker depending on the model. For instance, the RTX 3080 mobile has an official TGP of 150W+ but some high-end configurations of the SKU take that up to 165W. So, in that light the 175W spec of the RTX 3080 Ti could just be the base spec and manufacturers may be able to take it up even higher. As is stands right now, though, the difference stands at just 10W based on what we know. Still, that officially makes it the most power-consuming mobile GPU to ever exist. The RTX 3080 Ti mobile will have a standard version and a Max-Q variant, both of which will be announced at CES 2022 in January where NVIDIA also plans to make other announcements, including making the RTX 3090 Ti official. The RTX 3080 Ti mobile will be accompanied by the RTX 3070 Ti mobile at launch and is said to have 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a 150W TGP, though other details are still under wraps.
