65W Warp charging
As advertised before, the major upgrade this time around comes in the charging department. OnePlus is known for its fast charging, and this time around, the company introduces 65W warp charging, which can give you a full day’s worth of usage in only 15 minutes. The new Warp charger can charge the 4500mAh battery up to 58% in only 15 minutes, while full charge only requires 39 minutes. OnePlus achieves such an insane charging speed by dividing the battery into two identical cells.
Display
Other than the charging upgrade, the OnePlus 8T mostly features iterative improvements over its direct predecessor, the OnePlus 8. It features the same 6.55-inch 1080p OLED display present in the OnePlus 8, but the refresh rate is now turned up to match the OnePlus 8 pro, i.e., 120Hz. The jump from 90Hz to 120Hz does not feel that great thanks to the law of diminishing marginal returns, but it’s a welcome improvement. Another thing to note here is the fact that the display does not bleed down the edges, which makes it a little less premium but far more productive.
Camera
The phone features an array of new and improved cameras. There are four cameras at the back, which include a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultrawide sensor, 5MP macro, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. It’s an unusual collection of cameras that lacks a telephoto lens but OnePlus claims that it offers an improvement over the OnePlus 8 cameras. The 32MP front camera resides in a punch-hole on the upper left corner of the display.
Specifications
If we look at the internals, there is not much to look for as these mostly remain the same—the Snapdragon 865 processor powers the device, which is enough for the most tasks for years to come. OnePlus 8T comes in two different configurations depending upon memory and storage. The one with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is not available in the US, but it is available in Europe and starts at €599. The 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model is available in the US at $749.
