According to ActuGaming’s sources (via Wccftech), Activision Blizzard has numerous major projects in the works, including Diablo 2 Resurrected. This apparent remastered version of 2000’s hack n slash RPG will be released in Q4 of 2020, at least according to the rumors. In the case of remasters, it is not unusual to see publishers hold off on announcing games until only a few months before launch. As for Diablo 2 Resurrected, Julien Blary, the source of the rumor, wasn’t able to share an expected time frame for an announcement. It is likely that Blizzard has plans to reveal the game during Summer Game Fest. Alternatively, the publisher may end up pushing the announcement to BlizzCon, which would mean a November or December release date for the remaster. Furthermore, ActuGaming’s sources claim that Activision Blizzard will be appointing development of the game to Vicarious Visions, a New York-based game developer known for their work on Crash Bandicoot, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, etc. Take note that all of this information comes from unofficial sources. Although Blary’s previous leaks about Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 did turn out to be true, it’s still possible that Blizzard’s plans for Diablo 2 Resurrected change before its scheduled release in late 2020. The Diablo 2 creators previously stated that since all the original assets are lost, a remaster would be “very difficult for Blizzard”. We’re not exactly sure about Blizzard’s approach for this remaster, so the only surefire way of knowing would be to wait for an official announcement.
