After just two years in development, SK Hynix has officially confirmed the existence of DDR5 RAM Modules. The company launched the 16GB DDR5 RAM stick, which has all the benefits that are expected from an evolutionary leap in Random Access Memory (RAM) such as higher speed, increased reliability, and better efficiency.

SK Hynix DDR5 RAM Promises Lower Voltage, Faster Speeds, And EEC:

SKY Hynix has launched the world’s first DDR5 DRAM. The next-generation of volatile computer memory supports transfer rates of 4,800–5,600 Mbps. This makes DDR5 RAM at least 1.8 times faster than the previous generation of RAM wich is DDR4. Incidentally, the DDR4 Memory has become mainstream very recently. Hence it will take a substantial amount of time for OEMs, PC manufacturers, and end consumers to widely adopt the DDR5 RAM. Still, Hynix has assured the company is ready for the transition from DDR4 to DDR5 RAM. SK Hynix launched the 16 GB DDR5 RAM stick, which should eventually be available for desktop computers as well as laptops. The company has announced it was developing the first 16Gb DDR5 DRAM, and today the company delivered on that goal. Furthermore, the company claims it is already taking orders and shipping out the next generation memory to select Data Centers and Server Farms.

Needless to add, it continues the trend of the past few generations in terms of efficiency and speed. The RAM further lowers the operating voltage to 1.1V from 1.2V prevalent in DDR4. Hynix is claiming a 20 percent reduction in power consumption. Additionally, the new DDR5 RAM offers significantly faster transfers, with a claimed transfer rate between 4,800Mbps and 5,600Mbps, which is approximately 1.8 times faster than the DDR4 memory. One of the most important aspects of the next generation of this computer memory is the default inclusion of Error Correcting Code. In other words, all DDR5 RAM modules will be EEC Compliant. These DDR5 EEC Memory modules can correct 1-bit-level errors, thereby increasing application reliability by up to 20 times.
