Now Microsoft has announced that it is shutting down the streaming service for good. The software giant aims to shut the service down entirely by July 22nd, while its partners will be transferred to Facebook gaming. Microsoft does not compel its Mixer partners to join Facebook gaming; those who will remain will automatically be shifted to Facebook gaming starting today. In an interview with the Verge Phil Spencer, the head of gaming at Microsoft said, “We started pretty far behind, in terms of where Mixer’s monthly active viewers were compared to some of the big players out there.” He added that the Mixer community would greatly benefit from a diverse platform such as Facebook Gaming, not to mention the integrated social platform that Facebook provides. As mentioned earlier, Microsoft is partnering with Facebook gaming for the transition. Starting July 22nd, all Mixer sites and apps will automatically redirect to Facebook gaming. Lastly, Mixer viewers with outstanding balances will receive Xbox credit as compensation.
