Take-Two Takes Down Definitive Project’s GTA 4 Remaster Mod

It was recently that the Definitive Edition Project confirmed that its internet host was handed a DMCA takedown Notice. If you didn’t guess, this is obviously the work of Take-Two Interactive. This notice required that the GTA 4 Definitive Edition Project be brought to a complete halt. The project featured a collection of mods and fan-made projects that breathed life into the 14-year-old PC game. The modders working on the Definitive Edition Project knew this day was coming. Regardless they continued to pour their assets, time and effort into the mod until Rockstar completely trashed their work.

I knew this day was comingHere we are with a DMCA by Rockstar (I assume) on our GTAIV DE patch.Well, I suppose we need to remove all GTAIV related stuff from the website. :/ pic.twitter.com/WUjKRluhXl — D.E.P | Definitive Edition Project (@d_e_p_official) September 18, 2022 There’s some good news and there’s some bad news. The bad news is that the definitive edition project for GTA 4 is no more but the good news is that the site’s original trilogy mods are still safe, for now. It was in a follow-up tweet that the Project developers revealed that the original trilogy’s mods are still intact.

All GTAIV links are removed from both our website and Discord 💀 — D.E.P | Definitive Edition Project (@d_e_p_official) September 18, 2022 The Project’s team of developers urges fans to enjoy the mods while they can as the mods won’t be up for too long. It was according to the group’s website that the Definitive Edition project was dedicated to revamping the dated and buggy PC ports of Rockstar’s titles. The Project was jumpstarted back in 2016 and featured a mod pack for Vice City titled Reborn. The Project had since grown to showcase and allow users to download mods for San Andreas, China Town Wars, Bully, The Warriors and GTA 3. The Team also stated their direction and ambitions about their work on the many games Rockstar didn’t bother fixing and working on. Many years have passed since then and many things have changed, the project has grown; involving other titles and franchises, and our development team has expanded with new talents. Today the project is still in development and we are far from being done, but we are releasing constant updates on our website and social media pages so make sure to follow us to see the latest news! – Defintive Edition Project What’s notable is the fact that Take-Two only targeted the group’s GTA 4 project with the takedown request and left the trilogy mod pack intact. Take-Two made similar moves prior to the announcement of its very own Definitive Edition of the original GTA Trilogy which turned out to be profitable despite the disastrous and buggy day one launch.  Our patches are created by combining mods created by the community and by us, to bring a unique package that can offer an experience as faithful as possible to the original game but with various technical and graphical improvements. The patches are also constantly updated with new mods and updates in order to stay relevant and up to date. Here we are more than 20 years later, and Rockstar still hasn’t given its games the update they deserve, and some games haven’t been ported on PC at all. Here you can download all the updates for your favourite games, as well as some projects that were never released on the PC. – Definitive Edition Project This might or might not be the first hint at the possibility of an upcoming GTA 4 release. But evidence suggests that might not be the case in the future and here’s why. The GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy was poorly received following a disastrous launch that upset the gaming community as a whole. The game was outsourced to a smaller third-party company by the name of Grove Street Games that did no justice to the trilogy of original GTA Games. This was followed by the announcement that Rockstar would no longer be working on remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4. The company decided to delete the remasters from their plans and pour all their resources into the upcoming GTA 6. Speaking of GTA 6, there’s currently no release date set for the upcoming title, but fans got to see an early first look after a pre-alpha build of the game was leaked online. Fans were pretty critical of how the game looked due to its unfinished nature. But that’s just being too critical of a developmental build that’s set to focus on making sure the game is up and running rather than running head first into making graphical fidelity integrations, which the fans would prefer all the more, for all the wrong reasons. This led other developers to share their own set of unfinished projects in solidarity. The pre-alpha build of GTA 6 leaked is 2 years old and it appears that the game won’t be coming out for another 2 or 3 years so fans should sit back and let Rockstar finish their game in peace Should Rockstar take legal action against small projects like the GTA 4 Remaster Mod that are offering free assets and better experiences for players that like to enjoy older GTA titles? The answer is pretty obvious. Still, let us know your views in the comments below. We upload daily on Appuals, so stay tuned for more. Till then, see you later and goodbye.
