Microsoft has released another Cumulative Update to the Windows Insider participants as part of the Release Preview channel. Incidentally, the update is officially the next feature update Windows 10 Version 2009, also called 20H2 or October update, which arrives at Windows 10 OS users who are on the Windows 10 v2004, 20H1, or May 2020 Update.
Microsoft Windows 10 Build 19042.508 Will Be 20H2 Cumulative Feature Update?
Microsoft has sent out the nearly final version of the Windows 10 Version 2009 Update to the Release Preview channel. Although the Feature Update can be considered as final, Microsoft insists the company is still in the process of preparing the Windows 10 October 2020 Update (Version 20H2) for release to the general public. Speaking about the same, Windows manager Brandon LeBlanc, said, “We are still in the process of preparing the Windows 10 October 2020 Update (Version 20H2) for release. Today we are releasing build 19042.508 (KB4571756) for Windows Insiders on the release preview channel. We believe that build 19042.508 is the final build, and continue to plan to improve the overall experience of the October 2020 update to customers’ PCs as part of our normal maintenance cadence.”
— criticjournal (@criticjournal) September 19, 2020 It is important to note that Windows 10 Build 19042.508 might not be the name of the stable release of the upcoming Feature Update. This is because there are last-minute bugs or security issues that Microsoft usually finds before the GA (General Availability). Hence Microsoft could attempt to fix the issues with a new build, and a new preview build will again increase the build number.
How To ‘Seek’, Download And Install The Latest Windows 10 Version 2009 Feature Update:
Microsoft has confirmed that the October 2020 update will initially be offered to the participants of Windows Insider in the Release Preview Channel via the company’s ‘Seeker Experience’ in Windows Update. What this means is that users will have to specifically seek out and download the 20H2 Feature Update.
— Yeqdor (@yeqdor) August 2, 2020 Insiders have to go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update and check whether they want to download and install 20H2. In other words, Windows Insider participants will have to actively initiate the update themselves. As soon as an Insider updates the Windows 10 PC to the October 2020 update, he will continue to automatically receive new Service Updates via Windows Update (as with the monthly update process). In addition to the Seeker Experience, Microsoft is also starting to automatically release the October 2020 update for Insiders who are in the Beta Channel. Insiders who had not previously decided to install the October 2020 update will automatically be offered it via Windows Update. It is important to note that Microsoft hasn’t confirmed when the 20H2 or October 2020 Update will be released to non-Insiders or general users of Windows 10 OS. However, reports indicate the latest Windows 10 Feature Update should begin rolling out by the third week of October.
